Finally made it into that basement bar everyone whispers about. Turns out it lives up to the hype — and the cocktails are dangerously good.
You know the one. The one with no signage, just a black door that looks like it leads to a storage closet. The one where you've heard whispers but never actually met someone who's been. That one.
Well, I finally got in. And honestly? The whispers were underselling it.
Getting In
There's no booking system. You just show up and hope. Weeknights before 8pm, you're probably fine. Friday and Saturday after 9pm? Good luck.
The bouncer isn't one of those characters who thinks he's running a nightclub. Just a guy checking IDs, making sure you're not already messy. Fair enough.
The Space
Descend the stairs and you're hit with this warm amber glow. Low ceilings, exposed brick, booths that feel like they were built for secrets. The kind of place that makes you want to lean in and whisper.
Capacity's maybe 40 people. Intimate without being cramped. The acoustics are surprisingly good — you can actually hear your date talk, which is rare for Sydney bars.
The Drinks
Here's where it gets interesting. The cocktail menu is small — maybe 10 drinks — but every single one is executed perfectly. No 20-minute waits for someone to muddle something complicated.
The Enmore: Their signature. Mezcal-based, smoke-forward, with this chilli honey thing happening. $22. Worth it.
Paper Plane: Not their creation, but the best version of this drink I've had in Sydney. Bourbon, amaro, aperol, lemon. $19.
Wine list: Short, all Australian, mostly natural but not aggressively funky. $14-18 by the glass.
The Vibe
Thursday through Saturday, there's live jazz from about 8pm. Not the loud kind — the kind that sits in the background and makes you feel sophisticated.
Crowd's a mix of late-20s locals and people who've clearly been coming here for years. Staff know the regulars by name. No one's trying too hard.
The Verdict
It's rare that a place that relies on word-of-mouth actually delivers. This one does. Go on a Tuesday, sit in the corner booth, order two Enmores, and thank me later.
