From the Lansdowne to the Enmore, here's who's playing and whether it's worth the ticket price. Real talk from someone who went.
April's shaping up as a solid month for live music in the Inner West. Not festival-heavy, not dead — just consistent good shows in venues that actually care about sound.
Here's what's worth your time and money this month.
The Big Ones
Enmore Theatre is doing its thing — big names, good sound, the works. April's lineup includes some international acts passing through, and honestly, the Enmore is still one of the best mid-size venues in Sydney. Every seat's decent, the sound system is proper, and you're not paying ICC prices.
Worth it? For touring acts you actually want to see? Yes. For random support acts? Maybe check Spotify first.
The Small Venues
The Lansdowne
Still kicking, still delivering. April's got a mix of local and touring acts. The new(ish) setup works — sound's improved, they've kept the grungy charm. Thursday nights tend to be the sweet spot for local stuff.
The Vic
Free or cheap shows most nights. Sometimes you find a gem. Sometimes it's just background music while you drink. Either way, you're not risking much.
Their Old Fitz
More theatre than music, but the vibe carries over. Good for something different on a weeknight.
What I'm Actually Going To
Okay, personal recommendations. These are the shows I've already bought tickets for:
- The local band doing a farewell show at a small venue — always emotional, always worth it
- The international act at the Enmore — it's a bucket list thing, don't judge
- The experimental Thursday night thing — might be amazing, might be weird, either way memorable
What to Skip
Cover bands at venues charging original-band prices. There's a difference.
Shows that are clearly a cash grab — two-hour sets at $120? In this economy?
Anything where the venue's known for bad sound. Life's too short for muddy audio.
Ticket Buying Tips
- Presales: Sign up for venue newsletters. They send codes.
- Week of: Sometimes tickets appear on resale for face value. Sometimes.
- Door sales: Some venues still do them. Call and ask.
- Group: Buy together. Splitting a group buy is easier than finding seats together later.
